
The student performance is deeply connected to self-esteem. Since students are very young, they are tested their mistakes and achievements. These issues affect students’ self-esteem. The negatives effects are very difficult to erase in the child’s mind. Success in students’ lives gives shape to their self-confidence. A child who has high self-esteem, she or he is going to have better relationships. On the other hand, the student who does not trust on her or his abilities, he or she will not have motivation to face challenges, even less an academic life. This book “¿Valgo o no valgo?” by Nubia Saffie Ramirez develops the important connection between self-esteem and student performance. In addition the adolescence period is analyzed because it is a complicated period of students. When students are adolescents, they need to be accepted by others, they need love and autonomy. Misbehave, alcohol and drugs abuse can appear at this moment. These reflections are useful for teachers and parents showing a way to an effective education system in order to achieve students’ learning. It is important for teachers to know the importance of self-esteem in the student performance. This knowledge can improve students’ performance because the book has many exercises that teachers can apply on their students. This text is fundamental for the research project from a psychological point of view that influence on the student academic life. However the book needs more exercises that can be applied in the classroom and activities in the lesson plan.
