Books are always better than movies in terms of details of the story. Sometimes movies just show the main ideas and are more concise.
Some books and movies are very similar and they do not contain many differences. However I think books are better than movies because books contribute to mental process in our brains and movies just stimulate our eyes without hving strong mental process. When we read we learn many things and at the same time we learn vocabulary, grammar, etc. The greatest thing about this process is that it is unconscious in our minds.
The book of the Commitments does not have strong differences in comparison with the movie. I must say that I really like the movie and it helped me to appreciate more the story of the book. When I continued reading my book after I watched the movie, I could identify the different personalities and their physical characteristics, producing the story more enjoyable than at the beginning of the book.
I think the story is told in a totally different way in relation with the book and the movie. For example in the movie the story is told by Jimmy but in the book the story is told by the narrator. (the narrator is not a character or someone else)
I believe that this kind of comparisons are very useful in our classes because it help us to develop many skills like reading, listening, speaking and writing. Speaking because we discussed about the story to do the written part.
Finally I must say that the story was fun, it was not deep and sometimes it is good to read and to watch fun stories.
